What are vinyl silhouettes?
Think of them as high quality ultra-thin stickers of your favorite image! They can be applied to artist canvas, glass, mirrors, metal, as wall stickers, in picture frames, on cars, signs, or almost any flat surface. The decals are thinner than paper but very durable. They last indefinitely indoors and for many years outdoors. Indoor vinyl can be removed, repositioned and stored on its original backing. Outdoor vinyl is permanent. Our vinyl decals allow you to easily customize your home, office, or car with whatever is important to you. You dream it up, and we'll make it!

How to apply a vinyl decal

Can my silhouette be life-size?
Absolutely, we will cut the silhouette to match exact dimensions--and it is easy--just let us know how tall you want it and the other dimensions will be automatically adjusted to be proportionate to the height.

What type of photo do I need to send in?
Most digital camera photos work great! Please send us the original file from your camera (the largest version of the photo). Some computer programs, such as Picasa, shrink photos for emailing. For specific details on how to take a good silhouette photo, please visit: Photo Taking Tips

I'm not sure which photo is the best, can I send more than one?
Yes, feel free to let our experienced design team help you select the photo that will make the best silhouette.

After I pay for my silhouette, when do I send in my photo(s)?
Take your time getting a great photo. Remember, the key to a great silhouette is a great photo.

What if my photo has somebody else in it that I do not want to include in my silhouette?
No problem, when you email us your photo, make note of any special instructions.

Can you add something or someone to my custom silhouette?
Generally no, when we alter images it does not look natural. Please email photos@VinylSilhouettes.com with specific inquiries.

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor vinyl?
By default, our silhouettes are made of indoor removable vinyl. Indoor vinyl is much easier to apply, work with, and lasts just as long as the outdoor in an indoor setting. Indoor vinyl adheres well, yet can be removed, repositioned and stored on its original backing. Outdoor vinyl has permanent waterproof adhesive and is very difficult to remove.

Will you make a silhouette from any photo?
No, we reserve the right to reject copyrighted, sensual, pornographic, or controversial silhouette orders at our discretion.

How will my product arrive?
Your custom vinyl decals will arrive ready to apply. The decal will be sandwiched between the backing paper and the transfer tape. Every order also comes with a practice graphic.

Can I use my custom vinyl decals on a car or boat?
Yes, but be sure to select o outdoor vinyl on the vinyl type selection.

Can I overlap decals?
Absolutely. The vinyl is so thin, you can easily overlap decals for special effects.

How long will it take to get my order?
Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. Rush orders available.

How do I apply my custom vinyl decal?
Applying your decal is quite easy. It takes about 5 minutes from start to finish. All you have to do is peel off the backing paper, stick the decal on a clean surface and peel off the transfer tape. Every order comes with a sample graphic to practice applying before your image. This allows you to test your surface and your skills. Visit our Application Instructions page for a video and detailed instructions.

Can I use a picture that is not digital?
Yes, scan it and send us a high resolution electronic copy.

Can I mail a photo in?
No, we only accept photos emailed to us.

How should I store my decal until I am ready to use it?
Vinyl silhouettes in storage should be left on the original backing paper in a closed box. The backing paper must be kept dry to avoid expansion.

What if I ruin my custom silhouette?
Once a custom silhouette is created, re-cuts are relatively inexpensive. Simply purchase an "Additional Copy" found on the product page.

Can I get a duplicate silhouette at a later date?
Yes, we keep your image on file for one year from the date it was cut.

What type of surfaces will my custom decals adhere to?
Your decals will work on most smooth or lightly textured surfaces. Although heavily textured walls do work, the rough texture shows through the vinyl and the image has less surface area to adhere to. Rough or uneven surfaces are not recommended (i.e. stucco, cinder block, brick, etc.). Some of our most popular uses have been walls, doors, artist canvas (which must be painted first), windows, glass and mirrors, metal, sign boards, painted wood, decorative plates, picture frames (directly on the glass or on the backing), and on cars. Use your test graphic to see if your surface will work well.

If I remove a wall silhouette will it damage my wall?
Indoor vinyl has removable adhesive and can be peeled off. We have never known a single case when our product has caused wall damage. However, we cannot guarantee there will be no problems or be responsible for damage. Use at your own risk. Outdoor vinyl may cause wall damage.

How do I remove my custom vinyl decal?
Removing your decal is simple: with tweezers or your fingernail, grab the corner of the decal and gently pull it off at an angle. If needed, the decal can be warmed up with a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive.

Are vinyl silhouettes reusable?
Yes, but not always. It depends on what type of surface it was first applied to. If the decal adhesive remains clean, the decal can be careful peeled off and placed on another surface or stored on the original backing paper.

Why don't you offer smaller custom silhouettes?
Your custom silhouette can be any size up to the size limit you purchase. Simply let us know what size you want it when you email us your photo(s).

What is your return policy?
We create custom art to the specifications of our customers. For this reason we do not allow returns.
